In March we announced the appointment of
Goodbody Clearstream as our Sustainaibility
Consulting Partners. They will be assisting us
over the next 12-18 months with the development
of our responsible business, sustainability, and
reporting strategy. Pictured at the kick-off session
with the Ei Senior Leadership Team, were Fran
McNulty and Dr. Declan Bogan from Goodbody
Clearstream.
To encourage staff involvement in generating
sustainability ideas we introduced the ‘Idea of
the Month’ prize in September and received
four great ideas from Ray Fahy, Tina Falsey,
Barbara Barden, Jacek Fuderek and Amanda
Buckley – the monthly winners.
The volunteering initiative was also launched,
providing employees with the opportunity
to take paid time off to offer volunteering
services.
In September ‘Story for All’ Training saw operators receive
training on the key sustainability initiatives underway in
Ei across Manufacturing, Community and Environment.
The training was delivered by their peers and proved very
worthwhile.
Toward the end of 2024 we reached the
decision to proceed with certification
under the Science Based Targets
initiative. This is seen as the Gold
Standard in Sustainability target setting
and will challenge us – but will place
us in the premier league of Global
Organisations when it comes to setting
carbon reduction targets and meeting
them.
We will be obliged to report
under the new European
CSRD Directive in 2026,
based on 2025 numbers. A gap
analysis has been performed
to assist in preparing for this,
and in the first half of 2025 we
will commence compiling our
submission.
Once again this year Ei was lead sponsor at Shannon
Chamber’s Sustainability Week, hosting the Launch
Event in the COE.
Having joined the UN Global Compact in November
2023, we made our first formal submission in July
2024.
We were pleased be awarded a Silver rating by Ecovadis
in February – placing us in the top 15% of globally-rated
organisations.
EcoVadis provides trusted Sustainability ratings for over
125,000 organisations, representing more than 200 industries
spanning 180 countries. It is another significant milestone on
our Sustainability journey.
Our German subsidiary, Ei Electronics
KG, is leading the way in sustainability
with an innovative solution for recycling
end-of-life smoke detectors.
Through manual dismantling and
separation, all components such as
plastics, circuit boards, and batteries
are processed, and raw materials are
recovered for reuse. This initiative makes
Ei Electronics the first manufacturer of
smoke alarms to offer a comprehensive
solution for professional dismantling and
recycling!
