Supply Chain
Sustainability continues to grow in
importance and Ei are doing their part.
Ideas can come from everywhere.
Ray Fahy came up with an idea to print
the lithium label on our boxes instead
of printing them. This simple idea
saved thousands of labels being used
every year and saves production time
on the line. Great ideas are coming
from all over the factory to reduce,
reuse and recycle.
2024 was all about change for the supply chain team. With
the departure of Mike Flynn, Niall Reynolds and Imelda
Duffy, over 100 years of experience left the building. This
gave the opportunity for some bright sparks like Anna
Leahy and Jack Kelly to join the purchasing team. Anna
brought both production and financial experience to the
team and Jack brought 10 years of production and material
handing experience. Mike Rainsford did a fantastic job
taking on a lot more responsibility and in a very short
period of time, the new team have settled nicely into their
new roles!
Jackie Corry also has had a busy year bringing in new
recruits. Brian Keane, Dean Devaney and Liam McCannon
joined the material handler team. All three joined with a
lot of experience. This makes it easier to understand how
important it is to get the right material to production when
it’s needed.
Promoting from within is a big part of the Ei culture and
the supply chain team are no exception to this ethos. Every
person working for Bill Doran started their career in Ei,
working in production.
Digitilisation continues to be a great
way to improve efficiencies. As well as
having our supplier portal connected to
all our suppliers, we have now rolled it
out to other departments. Engineering,
Quality and NPI now use it to find the most
accurate information on all component and
supplier issues. In November we added the
Approved Vendor list to the portal. This
replaces an excel file that had been used for
30 years. This new digitilised version has
better traceability, more information and is
accessible to all by clicking a button. There
will be more initiatives rolled out in 2025
that will ensure the supply chain department
is at the forefront of digitilisation.
There were a lot of big birthdays in the
department this year. Cliff McCabe and
Ray Fahy were 40 this year and Mike
Rainsford and Jack Kelly turned 30.
Mike Rainsford got married to Lisa
Morrison in August. Congrats to all!
2024 was a difficult year for supply chain
with the Houthi rebels doing everything
they could to stop containers from using
the Suez Canal. This added huge delays
to freight times and costs. The political
instability added increased costs to
electricity and shipping costs with had
a knock-on effect on components costs.
The use of modern systems greatly
assists the team in focusing on late
deliveries and costs, reducing production
down time.
Every team needs a super sub,
and the supply chain team are
no exception. Cathal McKee
jumped into the breech for
nearly eight months and did
a great job! His support for a
certain scouse team was his
only negative!
