Choosing Your Photographer
The memories of your wedding day live on, you want to preserve them through fantastic photography. You, your family and friends will enjoy them for years to come, make sure they are exactly what you want. The right professional photographer will meet all your needs.
Photography is a very personal choice, so shop around. There are many different styles and looks and each photographer has their own flair. You will want someone that fits the look and feel of your wedding and your personal tastes. As you visit photographers take your time looking over their portfolio. If what you see doesn’t fit what you’re looking for, it’s time to move on to the next one.
Most people have a vision of what they want in wedding photos, don’t compromise on that. Time and setting are important – do you want nature photos at dusk, or urban photos at dawn, what is your vision? Look for samples of your dream as you review portfolios. If you plan to have nature based photos, someone who specializes in cityscapes is not for you.
The things to consider and discuss with your photographer include locations, natural lighting and the “feel” of special shots. Be sure to discuss things like
• How early do you want the photos to start? Do you want “getting ready” shots all the way through grand entrance? Make sure your photographer knows when and where they
will start.
• Decide on your schedule for group shots – will they be before or after the ceremony? Before requires pre-planning and careful scheduling. After may delay the reception, so you may want activities to keep your guests entertained.
• What time of day is the ceremony? If you want outdoor shots you need to schedule around the sun, as it waits for no one. Time your photos for the daylight you and your photographer are looking for.
• Are the couple seeing each other before the ceremony? If not, group shots with the couple need to be scheduled after, but the rest of the group shots can be done before if desired.
• Consider any intimate, special shots you want like first look. Schedule plenty of time for these as they can be much more of a moment than group shots and you won’t want to rush them.
Take your time. Know your vision. And if you see a portfolio that takes your breath away, that might be the choice for you!
