Owl Furn ure:
Simplicity Meets Ergonomics
By Dawn Lamoureux-Crocker
Owl Furniture takes inspiration through chance and simplistic Scandinavian design. “Through the process of carving out the seat in
order to alleviate pressure on what we call our ‘sit bones’ or ischium, the end result was two holes,” Geoffrey Warner said of a piece
known as the Owl Stool. When looking at the seat, it becomes obvious how the stool earned its name. With the addition of the two
postural support holes, the seat clearly resembles the face of an owl. The Owl Stool was brought to Warner’s local chiropractor who
made some design suggestions and the result is a final design that utilizes effective ergonomics and emphasizes the process of improve-
ment and prevention.
Owl Furniture/Geoffrey Warner Studio, in the coastal town of Stonington, boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere where you get a
chance to meet the designer and try out various models of the popular Owl Stool. Geoffrey’s talents extend to custom designed com-
missioned pieces that come in a variety of woods such as ash, maple, walnut, and cherry. The intimate relationship of designer and
design lends to the beauty of the final product and it is clear Geoffrey is passionate about what he does.
