When Grace Met the Remnant:
The Light of Jesus’ Birth Brings
Our Journey Full Circle
By Angie Alexander
For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to
condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.
(John 3:16-17 KJV)
N
ativity scenes are set up
in front of houses and
churches. Colorful gar-
lands, stars and angels
decorate mall entrances. Life-sized
spruce, pine or fir trees become
downtown centerpieces. Choirs se-
lect hymns, traditional and contempo-
rary, for holiday services. People give
each other the customary greetings, “Merry
Christmas” or “Happy Holidays.”
As people migrate to the malls and grocery stores, they
pass by church marquees with seasonal messages: Unto Us a
Child Is Born or Jesus is the Reason for the Season.
Is He? Is He still at the heart of Christmas?
Has He been reduced to vacation days of rest and relaxation,
family time, gift exchanges, and yearly check-ins for church
services and New Year’s Eve watch nights?
Has His birth lost its impact in the world or with believers?
Have we minimized His birth to a baby who drew shepherds
and wise men? Have we
forgotten that grace
was born and by it,
we are saved
(Ephesians 2:5)?
