Page 12 - Pastoral Epistles I & 2 Timothy, Titus
P. 12
There is a story about a young man who worked as a lifeguard one summer. During those summer months, he
had pulled five people to shore, saving their lives. As the lifeguard described his summer experiences, he said
something that seemed interesting. He said that all five people whom he had saved from drowning had one
thing in common. Not one of them had asked for help or even yelled for the lifeguard to save them.
These people were all caught in a struggle between life and death, and yet none of them admitted their problem.
One thing is true – before anyone can be saved, they need to understand they are lost.

1 Timothy 3:16. Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs
is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached
among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

1 Timothy 6:5. And constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of
the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
10 times the word true or truth or truths is used.
Why is the truth important?
The Apostle Paul’s primary theme throughout all three Pastoral Epistles is that the truth of
Biblical doctrine must be preserved and passed on to the next generation if the church is
going to survive.
1 Timothy 1:3.
NIV. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command
certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer.
