Dealing with Presuppositions

Most people's presuppositions are not unique to them. They have absorbed the beliefs taught them.
But knowing what they believe is extremely important when discussing issues of faith and God. The
Bible says that the Word of God penetrates the mind and heart in a way you cannot.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to
the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of
the heart.

In dealing with people who reject God or have false presuppositions, the first place to start is to
establish the reliability of the Bible. If they can trust the Word of God, then you can present Scripture to
them that challenges their assumptions.

Conclusion
The person who observes the world today comes to the table with certain beliefs that will affect how he
views the data. As indicated earlier, our presuppositions determine our predictions. The beginnings of
the history of our universe and earth are outside the realm of science since no one was there to observe
its foundation (except God), nor are these events repeatable or measurable. If one believes the Word of
God by FAITH, he is compelled to believe that God created the heavens and the earth a few thousand
years ago and that God destroyed the created world with a global flood. That flood altered the geology
of the world.

Suppose one would open one's eyes to this possibility. In that case, as we have seen, there are
ABUNDANT pieces of evidence that indicate that the earth and heavens were created less than 10,000
years ago by an Omnipotent and Omniscient Creator. He would also see an abundance of evidence for
the universal and cataclysmic flood.
