COMMUNITY OUTREACH
In response to the absence of women at the decision-making table in government committees engaged in the
impact of COVID-19, WePower established the ‘Online Women’s Leadership Project’ that has played an
important role in ‘waking up’ the general public, civil society, and the public and political spheres over the past
months. The project has raised public awareness regarding the importance of women’s equal representation,
and has put issues that are of concern to women, including domestic violence, inequal pay and others at the
forefront through social media, and in particular through WePower’s Facebook page.
When the project began, the WePower FB page had over 12,000 followers. In April alone, 130 new followers
joined the page and in mid-October we had 13,095 followers. During the months of July through September we
had over 12,000 engagements in our FB content.
Two examples of recent online campaigns
This year, our staff members participated as speakers in numerous online events. WePower’s CEO, Dr. Mazal
Shaul, was invited to moderate a meeting with Ms. Sussanah Wellford, CEO of Running Start, that promotes the
participation of young women in high school and college in US politics as part of a lecture series organized by
the American Consulate. She spoke at the ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ Worldwide Conference, and in the Hadassah
Women’s Foundation event for its supporters, and was also invited to lecture on women and leadership, and on
her own personal journey before the communities of two social change organizations - Tmura and Yahel.
What Are Our Participants Saying?
In response to the question posed to graduates of the Beit She’an Women for Future Leadership
questionnaire, ‘What do you take with you from the course?’ participants offered the following
responses:
“I understand the importance and power of a women's group to facilitate change in the public
sphere”
“I hope my teenage daughters will also be able to participate in such a course”
“I fulfilled a personal dream - a Young Women's Center (the final group project), met other women
in the city and was exposed to new content”.
