A FEW INSIGHTS FROM 2020
The absence of women from national decision-making processes during the pandemic has highlighted the
prevalence of gender discrimination and inequality in general, and particularly in times of crisis, reiterating
the importance of our work.
Over the past months, 20 new volunteers have joined our activities, highlighting the importance and impact
of our work for many women and the dedication of our alumni and friends. We have also been very fortunate
to have strong partners and supporters, such as the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, who have been willing
to adjust their funding priorities and provide us with more flexibility in our programming.
Due to a funding cut of close to 30% as a result of COVID-19, WePower has had to put the majority of staff
on unpaid leave and delegate more responsibilities to alumni and volunteers. Because of reduced revenue,
we have also cut down on ongoing expenses including rent, travel and external consultants. We are therefore
currently in the process of cultivating new partners and means of financial support.
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join
you." (RBG)
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away this year. She was a beacon to all who support
women’s rights, and a strong and fearless leader. With her words guiding us, WePower continues to fight for
the equal representation of women in the public and political sphere, and is thankful to all who have joined
us.
