Alexandria has diversified tourism characteristics with different

kinds of tourism all the yearlong not only due to its coasts which

attract thousands of visitors every year, but also to its historical

monuments and cultural landmarks especially Bibliotheca

Alexandrina which was established in 2002 to represent Egypt's

gateway to world's knowledge and vice versa.

The library in cooperation with Alexandria University contributes

to promotion of culture, sciences and arts in Egypt and the

Mediterranean basin.

Alexandria is also an industrial governorate where 40% of

Egyptian industries are concentrated, especially chemicals, food,

spinning and weaving as well as petrol industries and fertilizers.

Borg al-Arab city was established to be an industrial, housing and

agricultural city to absorb the current and future population
