1. Faculty Workload for Extension Involvement
In order to rationalize the functions of the faculty members and extension staff with respect to their
extension functions, a workload scheme serves as a guide in assigning extension loads.
a. A faculty member assigned to extension (Faculty Extensionist) should satisfy a minimum FEW of 12
units of extension activities.
b. A pool of qualified staff shall be tapped to provide technical services to programs and projects
sponsored or funded by national and international agencies based on policy guidelines for special
projects.
c. Faculty who does not meet the minimum full-time teaching equivalent (FTE) of 21 units in a week and
whose load is less than 21 FTE in a particular semester shall be required to engage in the conduct of the
approved extension project of the Campus/ University to complete the 21 FTE minimum workload.
d. FTE from extension activities/ project of the faculty for which they receive honorarium shall not
be included in their overload claim.
e. Faculty members and staff by virtue of their designation who report on a sixth working day and have
already rendered 40 hours of service per week shall be entitled to overtime pay or in case of fund
unavailability, such rendered services shall be converted into vacation services credit or
compensatory time off as defined in the CSC Rules.
f. It shall be the responsibility of the Department Chairperson and the Deans that the faculty who are under
load must have additional workload in either extension or research.
g. The performance target and performance rating of faculty without administrative designation must at
least have a minimum of 15 % devoted to extension.
h. Any extension programs shall be implemented based on the principles of integrated development
approach, resource sharing, participatory multi-disciplinary and college-based. It shall develop the skills
and capabilities of extensionist needed in becoming effective and efficient community worker.
Incentives and Awards
a. No faculty shall be promoted if he /she is not involved in either research or extension activities.
b. Faculty members can claim at most six (6) FTE in extension.
c. The overall performance rating of a faculty should include his extension function
/ activities.
d. To sustain and encourage the conduct of quality extension projects to support accreditation of
curricular programs, the University shall institutionalize an Annual Award for outstanding extension
projects or faculty either conducted individually or by a group of faculty which are college-based or
