Page 5 - Unstoppable Dads in Our Mundo
P. 5
The beginning of the work-from-home period
was very challenging, with emails at all hours of the day and night,
information coming from a myriad of places (text messages, FaceTime,
WhatsApp, TEAMS, WebEx) and my two teens transitioning to online
school overnight.
My boys are not really kids anymore at 17 years old and 15 years old, but I
definitely still have to be vigilant, making sure their assignments get done and
getting them used to the new routine. One morning when I was dealing with an
abundance of requests due to last-minute changes in our primetime schedule,
I realized that Julian and Gabriel’s grades were dropping in certain areas.
After talking to them individually, it turned out to be a miscommunication
between the teachers and the students, regarding the way their assignments
were being submitted. As if that weren’t enough, even though the boys were
logging in every morning for school, the system was sporadically marking them
absent. In the middle of being the “Art Director” answering a world of work
emails, text messages and chats, I also had to be ”Dad,” writing emails to the
boys’ teachers to resolve these issues.
Despite these challenges, the greatest part of this whole period has been the
opportunity to spend more time with Julian and Gabriel. Some days, my work office
is purposely found in their room, so I can bond with them. It gives me a sense of time
that I didn’t have in the past and sometimes these few moments go a long way.
