But that morning, when Jonathan

came to class with his mother and
the special cake plus lots of party
treats, he was completely surprised.
His classmates and teacher had

already decorated the classroom
with balloons and prepared
a special chair for him with
ribbons and flowers. He felt like

a real prince! Jonathan sat on
his birthday chair, everybody
congratulated him, and he felt
very excited…

And then it happened:

His classmates couldn’t
hold back any longer and
dashed for the candy and
cake, stepping over each

other. They all wanted to
eat right then and there,
and as much as they could
grab. They pushed and yelled,

and everything became much
worse when Ethan and Emily
started fighting over who would get
the biggest piece of cake – the dinosaur's red tail

covered with sweet glaze. Ms. Beasley was upset
and yelled at the children, and Jonathan felt his
good mood ruined at once. A lump built up in his throat
and suddenly this beautiful joyous day became sad and grim…
