THE SOUL CREATURES’ LAND –
THE MAGICAL POWERS AND IMPS WITHIN US
An Introduction to the Language and Method, by Efrat Maayan
Clinical psychologist, Jungian psychotherapist and animal assisted therapist
“The Soul Creatures’ Land” is a therapeutic-emotional language accompanied by a unique set
of cards. This language was developed over years of clinical experience in individual and group
therapeutic work with a variety of ages. It is a tool, designed to help children, adolescents and
adults on their journey of mental development, improving their self-awareness, understanding
and expressing themselves better, and improving their self-image and their ability to regulate
themselves emotionally and behaviorally.
The language and cards were inspired by Jungian theory, the Narrative Approach, Gestalt, Buddhist
psychology and CBT. They assist therapists and life coaches in their therapeutic work with children
and adults, group facilitation, staff meetings and training, and assist educators and parents by
enriching family and class discussions revolving around emotions and related issues. They also allow
for the ability to contain (accept, not restrain; lookup Psychological Containment) contradictions,
conduct internal dialogues, examine inhibiting and hindering factors, as well as strengthen the
psyche’s ability for growth, while reinforcing the capacity to choose between them. The language
of “The Soul Creatures’ Land” encourages discourse regarding feelings and emotions, and makes
it easier to share complex emotional issues. This technique stems from a deep belief in people’s
inherent healing and growth abilities, and encourages tapping into these capabilities.
This language constitutes a tool which is based on metaphorical work,
through recognition of metaphors’ ability to bring subconscious matters to
the surface, to bypass defenses and barriers, and to change the emotional
atmosphere. Use of this model enables expressing and addressing severe
emotional issues, weaknesses and pain in a non-threatening, humorous and
playful manner. As a result, it encourages emotional expression and sharing of
traits and situations that usually feel shameful and difficult to acknowledge.
At the same time, this tool enables the recognition, naming and owning of
positive attributes and aspects of the user’s psyche. It helps empower and
build self-worth and faith in one’s ability to muster resources for coping
and development.
