What sensation did you feel in your body?"
Jonathan: "I felt a fire burning in my stomach."
Tommy: "I felt a big lump in my throat."
Ethan: "I had a tremor in my hands."
Emily: "And I felt my jaws clenching. As if I was biting hard on something."
Parents, Teachers and Therapists - Activities for Children Following the Chapter:
• Ask the children where they feel their anger in their body: in the stomach, throat, fists,
somewhere else? Ask them to recount an incident when they experienced intense anger, and
try to examine what happens in their body. This way they may learn to recognize their personal
sign that signals and warns them when the Imp of Anger is approaching.
• Ask the children to draw or make a figure of their Imp of Anger. Suitable materials may be
paper, clay, scrap materials, plasticine, skewers, steel wool and various natural materials, such
as stones, thorns and acorns.
• Ask the children to name the imp they created or drew and tell you a little about it.
• Ask them to examine what usually causes them to be controlled by this imp. To this end, help
them identify triggers, such as "when somebody insults me", "when my little brother touches
my toys", "when my teacher or friends do not listen to me" and so on.
• Ask them to describe what the Imp of Anger makes them do when he takes control over them,
and what price they pay for allowing him to control their behavior.
