their name. Hashem mollified him with the lighting of the Menorah, a hint
 to the “Light of the world.”

 Hashem told Aharon (Bamidbar 8:2), “When you kindle the lamps,
 toward the face of the Menorah shall the seven lamps cast light.” The
 word  (shall cast light) begins with the letter . Aharon, too, merited
 this special letter. But his was perpetual, indicated by the fact that the
 Menorah remained constantly lit. Conversely, the Nesi’im maintained their
 letter  only as long as they walked in Hashem’s ways, losing the rights
 to their exalted names after they sinned.
















 “Hashem spoke to Moshe, saying: Take a
 census of the sons of Gershon, as well,
 according to their fathers’ house, according to
 their families”
