                   It states, “                – When a person from among you will
                   bring.” From this we infer that just as an animal is sacrificed as an offering
                   for Hashem, so too, man must be prepared to sacrifice himself for
                   Hashem’s sake. The Ramban explains that a person can acquire this
                   degree of mesirut nefesh by contemplating that all that was done to the
                   animal was really meant to be done to him.

                   We can learn from the account of Pinchas the Kohen, who risked his life
                   to defend Hashem’s honor, without considering his personal safety.
                   Therefore, he was granted Divine assistance so that he should not be
                   defiled by the dead. This is a fulfillment of the statement, “A person who
                   comes to purify himself receives Divine assistance.”
