Answers to some
common questions.
Do I have to stop working to live in a retirement village?
No, some of our residents are employed part-time or work as volunteers.
The only requirement is that you and your partner are seniors, and not working full-time.
Do all Uniting apartments come with car parking?
Most apartments at Bowden Brae will have a secure car space.
Do I have to sell or market my apartment when leaving the village?
No, you don’t need to sell, market or refurbish your apartment or villa.
We’ll take care of all that.
Can the recurrent charges increase and if so, how often?
Recurrent charges are reviewed annually and your village manager will update
you in advance should fees change.
What if I need time to sell my house before moving into a Uniting village?
We understand it can take time to make a move. That’s why we allow you a total of twelve
weeks from when you sign your agreement; giving you two weeks to prepare your house
for sale, a four-week sales campaign and a six-week settlement period for your existing
home. But this can be extended if needed.
Can I have overnight or short-stay visitors?
Of course, it’s your home and you’re welcome to host guests. For safety reasons we just
ask that you let the village manager know if you are having overnight guests.
What will happen if my care needs change?
Uniting is here for you at every stage of life. Our home and community care services can
help you stay living independently in your home for longer.
Can Uniting guarantee a place in residential care if I need one?
To access residential aged care you must first be assessed by your local aged care
assessment team (ACAT). This assessment will help you determine what level of
support you require. We can’t guarantee you a place at our residential aged care homes,
however we will do everything we can to support you in accessing the right care services
and our village manager can give you all the information you need.
Do I have to be religious?
No, at Uniting we celebrate spiritual and cultural diversity and offer a range of pastoral
care options for people from all faiths and traditions, as well as for people who don’t
identify with any religion.
Can I access respite care?
It’s possible we can help you access respite care. Respite care gives you or your partner
the option to be cared for in your home or at our respite accommodation for a short time.
Please call us for more information about what’s available to you.
