TRADITIONAL VOWS
STYLE 1
Officiant to Couple: <Name>, will you have <Name>, to be your wedded wife/husband, to live together after
God's ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony; do you promise to love her/him, comfort her/him, honor and
keep her/him, in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only for <Name> for so long as
you both shall live?
Response: I do!
STYLE 2
Officiant: <Name> do you take <Name>to be your (wife or
husband), to have and to hold from this day forward? Do you pledge
to remain with her/him, for better for worse; for richer or poorer; in
sickness and in health; to love and to cherish only <Name> from
this day forward; for as long as you both shall live?
Response: I do!
STYLE 3
My love for you is patient, it is kind. (Repeat) My love for you
always trusts, (Repeat) always hopes, always perseveres. (Repeat)
My love for you is not easily angered (Repeat) and it keeps no
record of wrongs. (Repeat) I will be yours in plenty and want,
(Repeat) in sickness and health, (Repeat) in joy and in sorrow.
(Repeat) I promise to cherish and respect you, (Repeat) to care for you and protect you, (Repeat) to comfort and
encourage you, (Repeat) and stay with you for all eternity.
STYLE 4
<Name>, do you take <Name>to be your wife/husband, to live together in holy matrimony? To love, honor and
cherish her/him, to keep her/him in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?
Response: I do!
(The words “Spouse” or “Partner” can also be used instead of wife/husband in any vow)
