the Provincial Agricultural Extension Office, and other stakeholders such as longan farmers and industry associations, as members, and a representative from the Weights and Measures Center/Branch Office as member and secretary. These task forces have been dispatched on the ground to inspect and certify the grading machines across eight northern provinces: Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lampang, Tak, Phrae, and Nan.
In addition, the DIT has enforced a Ministerial Notification prescribing specifications for sieve-type longan grading machines, including details on production materials, maximum permissible errors, and certification validity period. This aims to clearly define the acceptable standards for sieve-type longan grading machines to ensure fair practices among all parties involved, lay the foundation for building trust among farmers and longan buyers, and raise the standard of de-stemmed longan trade. Key provisions of the Ministerial Notification are summarized as follows.
• Definition of the grading machine. A sieve-type longan grading machine is defined as an instrument used to sort longan by size, comprising a set of sieves with varying apertures and a mechanism that enables the sieves to rotate or vibrate.
