Dear Basketball
By Cate Lamplugh ‘24
Dear Basketball,
It all started at Solly Playground.
Those nets that seemed big so long ago,
Are now nets I dunk on.
An impossible jump shot,
Is now a three pointer.
Dribbling with only a right hand,
Now there are crossovers from right to left.
Many tears were shed because of you.
A bone was broken because of you.
Arguments with my parents were started because of you.
Many late-night homework sessions occurred because of you.
You have brought me friendships.
You have been my life.
You have brought me tears, again.
You taught me to give it my all.
I believe the phrase is “everything you’ve got.”
You taught me that hard work truly does pay off.
Basketball, you are my life
I have never loved anything so much.
I have never done anything with this amount of passion.
110 percent times infinity.
That’s how dedicated I am to you.
I have decided I want to continue this sport.
Through high school,
And maybe even through college.
Thank you for giving me amazing coaches.
Thank you for teaching me to never give up.
Thank you for memories that will last a lifetime.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
So, here’s to many more years!
Yours truly,
