Pangkajene and Islands Regency (Pangkep) is one of the regencies in South Su­
lawesi Province, Indonesia. The capital city is Pangkajene. The origin of the word
Pangkajene is believed to come from the large river that divides the city of
Pangkep. Pangka means branch, and Je'ne means water. This refers to the river
that divides the city of Pangkep which forms a branch.

The total population in Pangkajene and Islands Regency in 2020 is 345,775 people
with a Population Growth Rate per year 2010-2020 is 1.20% and a population den­
sity of 311 per km] A2 , the sex ratio figure in 2020 is male to population female
population is 96.10 which means that the female population is more than the
male population.

Administratively, the area is 12,362.73 km with a land area of 898.29 km and a sea
