As you can see from the example above, identifying which types of
information, evidence, and sources were for each of the four items we
collected for Charles Hochmann took a long time to classify. And this is only
to prove one fact! Think about how many facts there are involved in a
persons lifetime. Researching your family history can be a very tedious and
exhausting project. If you dare to jump into the hobby, here are a few tips to
help you along your journey:
You should always strive toward getting original sources and make every
effort to keep your research as reliable as possible.
It is always best to have primary, direct and original sources. If you
cannot find any primary sources then the more secondary sources the
better the reliability.
Don't copy other people's family trees on ancestry.com or other
genealogy websites. Do your own research. You may be copying
incorrect information that will lead you down the wrong path and take
up your valuable time.
When conducting research use a template that helps you keep track of
the sources you found. Make sure to write the full citation so that other
