GRAND FINALS DAY #2

The second day of Auckland Rugby League junior
finals was played on Sunday, August 16, with four
games in the open weight divisions played.
First up Manurewa produced a passionate showing
to run out 29-18 winners against a well-structured
Mt Albert side in the U/15 Open Championship.
Extra time was required in the second game, but
after scores were tied at the end of 60 minutes Otara
blitzed Otahuhu in added time, running out 28-12
winners.
The next match, the U/16 Open Championship,
proved to be the match of the day as Richmond
overcame a half time deficit to score a try and
penalty goal in the final two minutes and force 10
minutes of extra time against Mangere East.
From there Richmond wrestled back momentum,
kicking a field goal via Chanel Tavita-Harris before
Dylan Tavita booted a penalty for a 19-17 win.
In the final game of the day Otahuhu proved far too
good for Mangere East in the U/17 Open
Championship, recording a huge 46-6 victory.
