CEO’S MESSAGE

The club season finished with a bang last weekend, with three
great Premiership grand finals played at Mt Smart Stadium
#2.

A big congratulations goes out to all six sides who made the
deciders; Mt Albert, Pt Chevalier, Te Atatu, Richmond,
Papakura and Manurewa.

All three games were ‘upsets’ as such, given that the lower
qualifier on each occasion claimed victory, while it was great
to see some of the skill on display.

Check out the match reports and reaction from all of the
games on the pages which follow.

While that part of the season is over there is still plenty more
footy to come, starting this weekend with the first games of
the Sportsafe Community Nines on Sunday, following the
opening round of the Regional Representative Series on
Saturday.

Both will be played at Cornwall Park, so get down and
support the teams.

The Community Nines has been a big focus of the ARL,
aiming to involve more people in our great game by offering
up weight-restricted grades in a less formal environment
than typical club games.

The fact that people could also get a team together just as
they would for a touch or tag module, without being
associated with a club, makes it easier for first-time players
wanting to give the game a go.

Summing up of the first stage of the Club is the Hub
programme is now underway as well, with indications that
the first year has been a success.

The initiative aims to create incentives which benefit our
local clubs and the rugby league community as a whole,
which can only be a good thing for everyone involved in our
game.

Thanks for reading,

John Ackland
