MANUKAU RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB
GOOD WILL IN ARL COURSE
Auckland Rugby League's Principles of Governance course was held in September and November, 2015.
Auckland clubs participated in stages of the course to grasp an understanding of governance fundamentals, tools to
evaluate governance strengths and weaknesses, tools to improve governance and survival knowledge.
Pt Chevalier Rugby League Club, Ellerslie Rugby League Club, Manukau Rugby League Club, Ponsonby Rugby
League Club and Bay Roskill Rugby League Club attended all three of the governance courses.
Manukau Rugby League had the greatest number of members attend the course than any other club.
"There are three main reasons behind why we really took advantage of this course," says JD Rawiri, Manukau Rugby
League chairman.
"The behaviour of chairman, the consistency needed at that level and the need to understand their roles as chairman
- the mana that they carry with that position."
Rawiri says the governance course was about having the opportunity for chairman to understand that they do in fact
have a major say within the club structure.
"I don’t think a lot of them understand that in being a chairman, they have a big say in the direction of ARL and the
financial position of our province. We can have an effect on this," he says.
"I've done a few courses, but it's always good to come back and be reminded that there are certain things that need
to be brought forward from chairman." 2016Issue 1 - January /
