The students were asked to collect mixtures of various pulses and nuts and were instructed to
separate them based on their appearance and properties. Some of the methods employed by
them were hand-picking, sieving and winnowing.
They also conducted experiments to separate sand and water from their mixture by following
the separation methods like sedimentation, decantation and filtration. They also learnt how
salt is obtained by the process of evaporation and that water can be collected back from salt
solution in its purest form (distilled form) by condensation.
