Laws Addressing Religious
Discrimination
Employers are obligated to accommodate
their employees’ or prospective employees’
religious practices (Section 701(j) of Title VII).
Nonprofits that are governed by religious
institutions are exempt from the law (Section
702 of the Civil Rights Act (CRA) of 1964)
Educational institutions that are owned,
supported, controlled or managed by a
religious organization or teach within a
specific religious context are exempt from
the law 703(3)(2) of CRA of 1964)
Faith Based Initiatives: Encourages
participation in federal programs by faith
based organizations
