History of 6σ?
Motorola is credited with being the first organization to
develop and implement the Six Sigma methodology. In the
1980s, Motorola was facing intense competition from
Japanese electronics manufacturers, who had gained a
reputation for producing high-quality products. In response,
Motorola turned to Six Sigma as a way to improve its quality
and competitiveness.
• Dr. Mikel Harry is widely regarded as the "father" of Six
Sigma. Dr. Harry was a mathematician and engineer who
worked at Motorola in the 1980s, where he played a key role
in developing and implementing the Six Sigma methodology.
