Stars ‘shocked’ at gender pay disparity in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stars
are sharing their shock at
reports of a significant pay
disparity between Mark
Wahlberg and Michelle
Williams for reshoots on the
Ridley Scott film “All the
Money in the World.”
Two reports say Wahlberg
was paid far more than Wil-
liams for the reshoots that
replaced Kevin Spacey
with Christopher Plummer
after accusations of sex-
ual misconduct surfaced
against Spacey. USA To-
day reported this week
that Wahlberg was paid
$1.5 million for the 10 days
of reshoots, while Williams
got less than $1,000 for the
same work.
Representatives for Wahl-
berg and Williams did not
respond to requests for
comment Friday. Impera-
tive Entertainment, which
produced the film, de-
clined to comment.
But actor Liam Neeson said
it’s a healthy and neces-
sary discussion to have,

— The U.S. poet laureate
has embarked on the first
of several trips to bring her
poetry to rural pockets of
the country where she says
book festivals rarely take
her.
A tour of New Mexico marks
Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy K.
Smith’s first trip as part of
a project she’s launched
in her role as the nation’s
22nd poet laureate. Her
tour began Thursday eve-
ning with a reading at Can-
non Air Force Base outside
Clovis, an agricultural town
on the far eastern plains of
New Mexico.
On Friday afternoon, she
visits the Santa Fe Indian
School, where students
from tribal communities
across New Mexico and
much of the United State

In 2012, Smith’s “Life on

now it’s the only country in

poetry can help readers

from another person’s
point of view, according
to the Library of Congress.
Meanwhile, she’ll also be
expanding her own per-
spective on the world and
the West.
The daughter of an Air
Force veteran, she was
born in Falmouth, Massa-
chusetts, and raised in Fair-
field, California.
She teaches in the creative
writing program at Princ-
eton University.q
