Memorial Day at my Second Home
By Linda Reijnders
EAGLE BEACH – The amaz-
ing white-sanded beach
of Eagle Beach serves one
day a year as a special lo-
cation for those who served
their country in times of
war. A very special Memo-
rial Day ceremony is orga-
nized by Maureen Nadal
and friends, every year at
the beach of the Costa Lin-
da resort. “Many years ago
my husband and a few
friends started this Memo-
rial Day program to honor
veterans from around the
world.” Aruba Today was
present during the solemn
and emotional ceremony.
Respect and honor found
their place on that particu-
lar moment.
It was 2002 when Mau-
reen’s husband and some
friends initiated the honor-
ing. Now, 16 years later,
Maureen is welcoming an
increasing number of visi-
tors each year. “They are
all here to honor veterans
from all over the world.
That is why we do not link
it in particular to the United
States, we are open to ev- of course the US.” The Cos- and chairs. “That is great as
eryone and all cultures are ta Linda resort decided for the older veterans cannot
welcome. We have peo- themselves to contribute stand that long in the sun.”
