                 Discussion                WHAT IS AN INTRODUCTION?
                         1





                                 In writing a research-based paper, your title and abstract are the

                          parts  which  function  to  convince  the  readers  that  your  paper  is  worth
                          reading  at  the  very  first  place.  On  the  other  hand,  an  introduction

                          provides the background to give context and encourage the  readers to

                          read more.
                          An introduction covers the following points:

                                The identification of the context (background) of the study

                                The discussion of some problem areas in your field that have been
                                 known (issues)

                                The statement of what questions/ issues remained to answer
                                 (gaps)

                                The explanation on how your research will contribute in filling

                                 some gaps in our knowledge (goals)
                                The formulation of problems that are going to be answered in your

                                 research (questions)
                          In  writing  your  introduction,  you  should  try  to  write  it  in  a  clear  and

                          interesting way.
