Discussion WHAT IS AN INTRODUCTION?
1
In writing a research-based paper, your title and abstract are the
parts which function to convince the readers that your paper is worth
reading at the very first place. On the other hand, an introduction
provides the background to give context and encourage the readers to
read more.
An introduction covers the following points:
The identification of the context (background) of the study
The discussion of some problem areas in your field that have been
known (issues)
The statement of what questions/ issues remained to answer
(gaps)
The explanation on how your research will contribute in filling
some gaps in our knowledge (goals)
The formulation of problems that are going to be answered in your
research (questions)
In writing your introduction, you should try to write it in a clear and
interesting way.
