                   d. Citing a Quotation

Use past verbs Another approach is citing a quotation in which a
such as: research article focuses can raise readers’ interest.

Freud once wrote, “the essence of repression lies simply

                       etc

                   e. Describing Common Occurrences
The last approach to generate readers’ interest is by describing a

common experience having clear relation to your main topic.
                                                                                               Mentioning
For traditionally male jobs, ….Women are less likely to be facts
hired than men. They are also paid less, given less stated in
authority, and promoted less often. ….. Conversely, male present
applicants are discriminated against for jobs that are tense
                              considered feminine (Uhlmann& Cohen, 2005, p. 474).

                                                  FOR INTRODUCTION

Identify the approach applied in each of the opening paragraphs below

                1) Approach chosen:________________________________________________

Over the past three decades, smoking prevalence in the general Australian
population has declined. However, this trend has not been reflected in smoking

rates in the Indigenous Australian population. Further, smoking contributes to
approximately 20% of all deaths in Indigenous Australians (Thompson, 2011,

                    p.90).

                2) Approach chosen:________________________________________________

Zimmerman (1989, p. 329) defined self-regulated students as “the degree that
students are metacognitively, motivationally, and behaviorally active participants

                    in their own learning process”.
