2 Spin & Speak Wheel
Read the following instructions to do the activity:
1. Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students.
2. Teacher shows several discussion topics on the slide.
3. One student in each group spins a spinner or rolls a dice (provided by the teacher or via an
online link).
The spinner or dice is labelled with the following language expressions to state argument
clearly*:
a. Introduce an argument
b. Give a reason
c. Give an example
d. Clarify a point
e. Persuade
4. Based on result, the student must speak using the assigned/shown function related to the
topic.
5. The next student spins the spinner or rolls the dice and continues the discussion using the new
function.
6. Group members take turns spinning and speaking.
7. After everyone in the group has spoken once, repeat the process for a second round or more
with the same group members.
*When using a spinner or dice is not feasible, teachers can directly assign each student a specific
function to perform.
3 Walk & Talk
Here are the instructions for Walk & Talk speaking activity:
1. When the teacher plays the song, the students walk freely around the room.
2. When the music stops, students stop walking and pair up with the nearest person.
3. Pairs discuss the topic shared by the teacher freely for 1–2 minutes. They can take turns speaking
or have a flowing conversation.
4. When the first round is done, teacher restarts/resumes the music.
5. Students walk again, and pair with a new person.
6. Teacher gives a new question or topic for each round.
