5 What Would You Suggest?
How to Speak at Length
While discussing possible solutions to certain problems, there are two things we can
do to speak lengthily; proposing a plan and encouraging more discussion.
1. Proposing a Plan
To offer solutions, suggestions, or the alike to deal with problems, we can say the following
expressions in proposing them before further talking about the plan.
✓ “Here is what I think we can do.”
✓ “We can start by ....”
✓ “Our best option at this point is to ....”
✓ “The most practical thing to do is ....”
✓ “This is what comes to my mind.”
2. Encouraging more discussion
To ensure a rigid and thorough solution, more discussion can be prompted using the
following expressions.
✓ “Does that sound like a plan?”
✓ “What do you think about the plan?”
✓ “Do you have any additions or objections to the plan?”
✓ “Shall we give it a shot?”
✓ “Let's see if that works for everyone.”

How to do it:
1. Listen to five audios of people stating different problems.
2. In pairs, discuss one possible solution for each issue. Use the expressions of proposing solutions
that we learned in the previous session. Also, identify your solution using the adjectives in the
‘What’s the word for that?’ section.
3. Share your proposed solutions to the class.
