Language Focus: Expressions for Presenting Oneself in An Interview
In the interview, the recruiters are interested in
seeing you in person to see if your personality lives
up to the promise of your CV. Do the details in your
self-presentation match those in your CV? How
passionate are you about this job and how well do
you fit into the company? These points, among
others, are decisive for whether you get the job in
the end or not. When giving a presentation about
yourself, it is also important to choose a sensible
structure so as not to lose the thread in the interview.
The order to build up important information in your self-presentation is as below along with the language
expressions to use.
1) Personal details
Examples:
"My name is Amanda Triharjo, and I'm a recent Nursing graduate from Universitas Muhammadiyah
Yogyakarta."
" My name is Riley See. I'm a recent graduate from Ball State University”.
“My name is David Raharja. I live in Yogyakarta, where I have been working as a volunteer in a medical
clinic as a nurse assistant for two years”.
“Hello, my name is Sarah and I’m originally from Sacramento, California. I graduated from my
Professional Nursing Program last month”.
“I’m Lucia from Los Angeles. I’m 24 years old and a fresh graduate of nursing”.
“My name is Lisa and I’m from Boston. I became interested in nursing after my youngest sister was born”.
2) Education
Examples:
“I graduated from (university/college etc) in (the year) …”.
“I studied at (university/college) …”.
“I got a diploma in…. and then went on to study...”.
“I am a qualified candidate for the job who graduated from……in ……”.
“I participated in a student exchange program in 2018 in South Korea and this helped me to...”.
3) Professional experience
“I worked as a nursing assistant in a clinic next to where I domicile”.
“I worked as a volunteer for (time)…”.
“I was responsible for...” .
“I have worked for daycares including….”.
“I have ……. years’ experience in….”.
“I have a proven track record in….”.
“I have managed to give the patient the best wound care”.
