Auditing Project Management Practices
TOPIC 2: CORE PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Core Principles of Project Management
A successful project management office (PMO) is guided by a set of core principles.
These principles are based on common themes that drive how the enterprise project management
office (ePMO) executes projects. On the next screen, you will review a conversation between the
director of the ePMO and an internal auditor as they discuss these principles.
Project Management Principles
Hello Yulia! How are you today?
Hi Miguel. I am well. Thank you for meeting with me to talk about your department. As you know, my
team is conducting an audit on project management and I really appreciate you meeting with me
today to discuss your department’s processes.
Certainly Yulia. I am glad to help. Let’s start by taking a look at a copy of our department’s standard
operating procedures (SOPs).
That would be great. I see your team has identified a set of core principles.
Yes, we have. I measure both our project managers and each project engagement to ensure our
principles are being upheld.
That sounds great. Will you please share the principles you have written for the organization with
me?
Yes, of course.
