can either make an Albright knot if the line is unbroken (see the illustration
above) . . .
. . . or you can do as in the illustration to the right if the backing line is spun
(made like a sock).
1. Cut the fly line at an angle.
2. Widen the backing and thread the fly line two-three centimeters (roughly
0.75- 1.25 inches) into the backing.
3. To strengthen the splice you can tie a nail knot (see below) around the
backing and fly line. Or you can use a little special glue for knots and wind
the knot with a thin line by using, for example, a spool holder (as used for fly
binding) and spinning it around. The result will be a nice strong knot.
