Meet the new NCPS Executive Director, Maggie Furrow
As a kid, I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Sounds weird to me
now because I am always asking my kids, but I don’t think it was ever
something that was asked of me. Or, maybe I just didn’t care. I was happy
living my life for that day and never really thought too much about what my
future would look like.
Fast forward 30+ years and I think I have ended up exactly where I was meant
to be.
A little about me… I am a mom, wife, daughter, aunt, best friend, and listener.
I surround myself with people and things I truly love. My two boys, Henry, 5
and Harrison 3, who you will hear about probably every time we talk if I can get
away with it. They are my sunshine most days and they brighten my worst days
when they run to me when I walk through the door at the end of the day. They
are both too smart for their very young ages, a little too adventurous for my mama heart to handle,
stubborn just like their dad (and maybe a little me as well) and feisty. My
husband, Brian and I have been in each other’s lives for nearly 25 years,
married for almost 7 of them. He has been my rock and sounding board for
more than half my life and I have known since they day we met when I was 17
that I was going to marry him. Our little family is completed by my fur baby
Watson our rescue I refer to as my jackpot dog.
I grew up in Clovis, graduated from Clovis High School and then Fresno State
with a BA in Mass Communications, I moved to Baltimore a few years later and
spent my late 20s and early 30s there. While in Baltimore I decided on a whim
to get my masters at Notre Dame of Maryland University. I finished my
master’s in communications in August of 2013 and the day after I submitted
my last paper, I packed up and moved back to Fresno where my current season
of life began. When we aren’t working we enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking,
white water rafting, taking road trips, spending time with our friends and both
families and watching our boys grow up (way too fast).
Since moving back home I have worked for local non-profits here in Fresno.
The Central California Food Bank, Fresno First Steps Home, Community
Medical Foundation and Wings Advocacy Fresno. Wings is a furniture bank that
provides furnishings to newly housed formerly homeless here in Fresno and it
stole my heart for nearly 2 ½ years. I am still working with them while we train
my replacement and am hopeful that they will agree to have me as a board
member when my employment with them ends.
My employment with PESC and my work with NCPS happened very much by
accident. I wasn’t looking for a new job, I was happy where I was. But when I
was contacted about this position, I couldn’t pass it up. I left my interview with
Marcel and Ashleigh so excited for the possibilities. I love coming to work
every day and being able to have the training and continued support from
Henry (5) & Harrison (3) Adrianne was more than I could ask for. I feel like she left me in a good
position to best support all of you in this role.
