Off-Duty Time and Meal Stops
On this trip, during any period of driving not exceeding 11 hours, you are authorized to make routine stops for meals or other personal business and log such time as off duty, provided the following conditions exist.
1. Meal stops to be not less than 30 min nor longer than 2 hours. Your truck must be legally parked or stationed in a safe place with parking brake set, wheels chocked, switch key removed, and cab locked when not in truck.
2. Other off duty stops are authorized for a period not less than 30 minutes or longer than 6 hours at either (a) location authorized or approved by Dispatch; (b) an Interchange Inspection Station; (c) or a safe parking area at origin or destination. Your truck must be legally parked with parking brake set, wheels chocked, switch key removed and cab locked.
During such off-duty time you are relieved of all duty and responsibility for the care and custody of your vehicle, its accessories and any cargo. During such off duty time you are at liberty to pursue activates of your own choosing and may leave the premises on which your vehicle is situated.
During any period of driving time not exceeding 11 hours, you may make one or more stops for meals and enter the time thus spent in your log as "Off-Duty'' time provided however, that when such a stop is made you will ensure that your vehicle is properly parked and stationed in full accordance with Parts 392.20 and 392.21, Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the Federal Highway Administration.
When meal stops are made during any period of driving, each stop must be of not less than 30 min or more than 60 minutes duration; stops of less than 30 minutes to eat a meal are to be logged as "on duty" time.
During the time you are stopped as provided in paragraph 1 hereof, you will be relieved of all duty and responsibility for the care and custody of your vehicle, its accessories and any lading it may be carrying. Furthermore, throughout the duration of such stops you are at liberty to pursue activities of your own choosing and you are free to leave the site at which your vehicle is properly parked and stationed
The above instructions DO NOT apply when you are transporting hazardous materials and dangerous articles that are not described in Part 397 of the Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and when incidental stops are made for coffee, refueling, or for personal reasons. All such stops must be recorded as "on duty" on your log if longer than 10 minutes and stops of less than 10 minutes duration must be recorded as "driving time".
Personal Conveyance
As a company we have put a limit on personal conveyance (PC) to 40 miles per day without authorization. Anything above please notify the Safety Director. Abuse of PC will result in written warning and access will be turned off.
