            Development Aid 25

Development aid or development cooperation (also development assistance, technical
assistance, international aid, overseas aid, official development assistance or foreign

aid) is a financial aid given by governments and other agencies to support the economic,
environmental, social, and political development of developing countries. It can be
further defined as "aid expended in a manner that is anticipated to promote development,

whether achieved through economic growth or other means".[1] It is distinguished from
humanitarian aid by focusing on alleviating poverty in the long term, rather than a short

term response. According to theories and statistics development aid is a probable
measure to achieve economic growth in developing countries

            Diaspora 26

A diaspora is a scattered population whose origin lies in a separate geographic locale

Some diaspora communities maintain strong political ties with their homeland. Other

qualities that may be typical of many diasporas are thoughts of return, keeping ties back
home (country of origin) relationships with other communities in the diaspora, and lack
of full integration into the host countries. Diasporas often maintain ties to the country of

their historical affiliation and influence the policies of the country where they are located.

            Economic freedom 27

The Index of Economic Freedom is an annual index and ranking created in 1995 by The

Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal to measure the degree of economic
                  freedom in the world's nations.

The creators of the index took an approach similar to Adam Smith's in "The Wealth of

Nations", that "basic institutions that protect the liberty of INDIVIDUALS* to pursue their
own economic interests result in greater prosperity for the larger society,"
