Liemba is running once a week in each direction again since August 2018, from Kigoma

to Mpulungu Wednesday to Friday, and back again from Friday to Sunday.
Accommodation ranges from 1st class (luxury cabin) to 3rd class (seating only).
There are docks at Kigoma, Mpulungu and Kasanga, but at all other stops, passengers

must travel between ship and shore by way of a smaller boat. “

            Uganda
The northern edge of Rwanda shares a border with Uganda. Together these two countries

share with the DRC that land area in which one half of the world's gorillas live. It is an area

containing several (not so active) volcanoes and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Uganda doesn't pose a major military threat, but it does raise security concerns.

Search the internet and you will see accounts referring to the implied involvement of the

Ugandan Army in the slaughter of 22 elephants in DRC's Garamba National Park. East
African newspapers gave a lot of coverage at that time of this incident. 22 elephants were

found dead at the same location. Each killed by a single shot fired from directly above. The

inference drawn was that this could only have been done from a helicopter. The only
helicopter known to be in the air that day, in a district dominated by the main base of

MONUSCO's 18,000 strong force, was one belonging to the Ugandan Army. The African
newspapers widely published a photograph taken of that helicopter in that location on that

            day.

Uganda does not pose a major military threat, but there is a real sense of insecurity.
Several years ago, two senior Rwandan army officers accompanied by 3 or so Rwandan

soldiers were discovered wandering around South Western Uganda. When found, this party

was dressed in civilian clothes and was many miles inside Uganda, well away from the
international border. None had crossed the formal border crossing using their real

            identities.
