Chagos Islands dispute: UK 'threatened' Mauritius
"We have had verbal threats," said the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, in
                  an interview with BBC News.

" He did not dispute a report that Britain's former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson had

called him personally to pressure Mauritius to back down on its demand that the islands
be returned after decades under UK control.

"Unfortunately, we have been threatened with retaliation... on issues of trade and on

issues of investment, you know, and on our relationship with the UK," Mr Jugnauth
                  added."

Chagos Islands dispute: UN backs end to UK control

" The UN has passed a resolution demanding the UK return control of the Chagos Islands
                  to Mauritius.

In the non-binding vote in the General Assembly in New York, 116 states were in favour

and only six against, a major diplomatic blow to the UK.

Fifty-six states, including France and Germany, abstained.

Mauritius says it was forced to give up the Indian Ocean group - now a British overseas
territory - in 1965 in exchange for independence."

Chagos Islands dispute: Mauritius calls US and UK 'hypocrites'

" Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has labelled the British and Americans
"hypocrites" and "champions of double talk" for the way they have behaved over the
                  Chagos Islands.

Last year, a UN court ruled that the UK should end its control of the Indian Ocean
archipelago, which includes a US military base.

Mauritius says it was forced to trade the islands in 1965 for independence.

The UK has said it does not recognise Mauritius' claim to sovereignty.
