forthright and helpful. Their experiences were varied and of great inter-
est. By April we had developed a draft report. We had a meeting in New
York with all the participating companies. Dick Beaumont, the CEO of
IRC, promised the companies a full report soon.

IRC had paid Jean’s way to New York and she came back there
for a week. The 1964 New York World’s Fair had opened. Jean went
to the Fair twice and saw the sights in New York while I worked. She

cooked my own meals. I had taken the opportunity to do so in order to
save money because I was on an expense account and we had two kids
        in college.

compensation to complete the report. For reasons never divulged to me
or Jane, the report was never completed. Jane left IRC in disgust. In
returning to Chevron I was soon transferred to the college recruiting
group. The work was interesting and gave me the opportunity to par-
ticipate in a recruiting team visit to the University of Minnesota and
        Western Michigan University.

like a son. Part of my job in Chevron Research involved participation
in several organizational and operational studies of various sections of
the research lab in Richmond. Chevron Research was clearly interested
in improving itself. A four-man team typically made these studies and
I learned a great deal from them. Chevron Research was far more pro-
        gressive than Chevron overall.

In dealing with lab supervisors, it seemed to me that they lacked
