time of the Biafra War. In the civil war there the Italian company, ENI,
had some of their personnel killed and lost all of their geological and
geophysical records that had been accumulated at the cost of millions of
dollars. In contrast, our manager had gotten all of his foreign employees
out safely as well as all of their geological and geophysical records.

to the sea. Nairobi is almost on the equator. The days were pleasant and

bank of multicolored bougainvillea, which were in full bloom and were
        gorgeous.

We went through the Masai tribal area soon after leaving Nai-
robi. The Masai people are all very slim and the mature men I saw were
all over six feet tall. They herd long-horned cattle for a living. Their
principal food is a combination of milk and cow’s blood, which they
extract by nicking an artery on the cow’s neck.
We drove to the Tsavo National Park. There are asphalt roads

bodies. The hippopotamuses in a pond looked like fat pigs. I had never
seen so many beautiful wild birds. We saw only a few lions; they were
inactive. The elephants we saw were all red. The soil in the area is red,
like in many areas of southern Utah, and the elephants cover themselves

I stayed overnight at a new hotel near the park. They had estab-
lished a pond with the hotel half encircling it and they put out salt to at-
tract animals. There were no animals whatsoever in the evening. I went
to bed and slept under mosquito netting. I awakened in the middle of
