the night and was determined to see the animals that would have come
to visit. So, I risked malaria and went out on the balcony to see the ani-
mals. The area was lighted, and there were no animals! The next day we
drove around the other half of Tsavo National Park. It was interesting to
watch the monkeys, who seem to live in large groups of 30 to 40.

Amin, who was literally a butcher of humans, was the dictator of Ugan-

attended a church conference on Sunday and on Monday night I had
dinner with the Barnes family in the mission home, which was a large
apartment. The older Barnes kids remembered me and greeted me very
warmly. The youngest Barnes child, Diane, spoke only Spanish and
looked at me as though I were someone strange.

revising their compensation downward. The stupid part about it is that
about six months later the company adopted a revised foreign service
compensation plan, which increased foreign compensation!

spent an interesting time with Mal Boyce, the Resident Manager. He
was a highly capable fellow and a very nice guy. I questioned him about
the area where we proposed to drill in the North Sea as a consortium
of companies. He showed me the geological maps and expressed con-
