amco pension plan and the Chevron stock plan. I invested the proceeds
of the Chevron pension plan in a self directed IRA. Taking the cash

made numerous trips possible, provided help for our childrens home

If you were to design an illustration of jobs in Chevron, the de-
sign would be shaped like a diamond few jobs in the bottom, most in
WKH PLGGOH DQG IHZHU DQG IHZHU QHDU WKH WRS ,¶P SURXG WKDW , ¿QDOO\ DW-
tained a job level in the top 3 percent of all Chevron jobs. I went through
years of personal hell in not having the opportunity to show what I could
do, but from Chevron Research days onward there was a steady rise to
close to the top of the corporate ladder.
Before I retired from Chevron I had worked hard arriving
at 7:30, pushing myself all day long and usually leaving around 5:30,

ed operating in the early 1970s, I could leave my house at ten minutes
to seven. Before that, I commuted by Greyhound bus, which was much
longer and unreliable. Ironically, when I retired, my job was split and
two managers replaced me! I have kidded with friends by saying: one
of the highest compliments a company can give you is to replace you,
upon your retirement, with two managers to perform the same work.
