members twice elected me Mayor. I have never been on a mission for
the church, but I hope the Lord will look upon my service on the council
as a substitute.

I had no higher political ambitions. I retired at the end of my
second term. In any activity of this sort, it is appropriate to ask your-

was honored as Lafayette’s Citizen of the Year. At the banquet honoring
me, the outstanding talk of the evening was given by my eight-year-
old granddaughter Erica Teichert. She thrilled everyone with a speech
from the heart delivered beautifully without fear or concern for the adult
crowd. We were all immensely proud of her.
