make up by reading Parley P. Pratts autobiography, which I found inter-
esting. As a result, I was able to graduate from the Seminary program.
During high school I made the mistake of not studying advanced
algebra, since math held little attraction to me. Later, in college chemis-
try and statistic classes, I learned what a mistake it had been.
In high school we enjoyed dances. What a lot of fun high school
students nowadays miss since there are so few dances. We took our
dates to Cadet Hops sponsored by West, East and South High Schools
and even drove to Ogden to attend their Cadet Hop.
In the early spring of my senior year we had a most unusual
event. East High students had gone to Ogden High School the night
before a basketball game and had painted their school walk. The Salt
Lake City school authorities reacted by banning West High students
from attending a basketball game between West and Ogden High that
was to be held in Ogden. During the afternoon prior to the game many
West students walked out of the building to demonstrate against the ban.
After all, West students hadnt done the damage! I was terribly torn.
Those who went outside the building were morally right, but the school
principal insisted that all students should continue attending classes. I
was class president what to do? Near the end of the school day, the
principal set up a special assembly in the auditorium. I had attended the
classes but felt no responsibility to attend an assembly. I walked out
of the building, borrowed Dads car and drove a carload of students to
Ogden to watch the game despite the ban.

Dummy me I had simply felt that the school administration in banning
our attendance at the game was wrong and that the matter would be for-
gotten. After all, West students hadnt committed any acts of damage.
But that did not satisfy our school administrators. Very fortunately, a
couple of the fellows who had gone to Ogden on Friday night had gone
