Highlights

Little Trotty Wagtail

This story goes back to the beginning of 2023 when I
approached Wimbledon Choral and Neil Ferris about writing
a piece for them to be performed at the Merton Sing-fest, an
annual event in May involving choirs in the Merton borough.
This was duly accepted and so, during my annual ‘composer’s
retreat’ to Devon in February, ‘Little Trotty Wagtail’ was
born. It takes the text from a charming poem by John Clare, a
19 century English poet, best known for his celebrations of
th
the English countryside.
The piece had its premiere at the Sing-fest. However, the
adventure didn’t stop there. The idea was mooted to record
it. Taking a smaller section of the choir (the folk that piled
down the pub after the rehearsal!), a recording was made in
September. Here we all are just having completed the
recording.
